Christmas Card Painting Steps

Christmas Card Mittens 1

1. Start with maroon perylene in a rough sketch of the shadow areas.

2. Drop in some quinacridone red to brighten it up. Splatter paint with pthalo green and both reds. Let it dry.

Christmas Card Mittens 3
Before you use pen and ink, always make certain your painting is dry, otherwise it will bleed muddy black into everything!

3. Scribble some with pen and ink. Don't outline everything, just a bit.

Isn't this a fun one? In a really loose sketch like this, put on some cheerful Christmas music and let your brush dance with the music. If your brush is dancing, your strokes will be relaxed and much looser. Don't worry about details at all. You can always add them in, but I promise you less details and more suggestion makes a much better Christmas card.

Now you have some warm and cozy mittens to give someone special a warm hug for Christmas!

Merry Christmas and a Joyful Holiday to All!
